Update #2: With the execution of the S-NPP VIIRS Day-Night-Band Calibrations performed on November 20, 2025 and the deployment of S-NPP VIIRS IDPS Look Up tables implemented into operations today on December 4, 2025 at 17:01z, all S-NPP VIIRS Science products are cleared for operational use. This will be the final closeout notice for this anomaly.


Update #1: The S-NPP VIIRS instrument experienced a data loss event on November 11, 2025 at 11:36:40z due to a single event upset within the rotating telescope assembly.  Engineering was able to restore the S-NPP VIIRS instrument to an operational state on November 12 at 16:29:18z with full OP- Day/OP-Night commanding beginning at 19:43:36 daily activity schedule load. All missed S-NPP VIIRS data is unrecoverable. An update will follow after Cal/Val teams validate the data as acceptable.  Data used before that validation is completed is at the user’s own risk.
