Update #1: After mitigating the initial failure, AWS reported that they had found other "significant API issues" as of 1414Z. As of 1543Z they have identified the root cause and are working on a further mitigation. NOAA NCCF Data Onboarding/Distribution and Product Generation continue to be impacted by this AWS anomaly.

Topic:  NOAA NESDIS / AWS Outage

Date/Time Issued:  October 20, 2025 1645Z

Product(s) or Data Impacted:  Most NOAA/NESDIS Products

Date/Time of Initial Impact: October 20, 2025 0657Z

Date/Time of Expected End: October 20, 2025 1200Z

Length of Event:  6 hours

Details/Specifics: Starting around 0657Z NOAA NCCF began receiving alarms for low ingest data on multiple products. This was traced to DNS failures in multiple AWS services in the US-

East 1 region (especially Dynamo DB, EC2, Lambda). AWS stated that the problems were identified and mitigated by 1035Z; however, a significant backlog of products remains to be processed, which is ongoing.

Virtually all NOAA/NESDIS products were affected. We expect that all products should eventually be restored; it appears that all data is delayed, not lost.
