Topic: GOES-16 Drift from 75.2°W to 75.5°W in Preparation for GOES-East Transition

Date/Time Issued: March 20, 2025 1459 UTC

Product(s) or Data Impacted: GOES-16 ABI CONUS Scene Products

Date/Time of Initial Impact: March 10, 2025

Date/Time of Expected End: April 4 2025

Length of Impact: 3 weeks

Details/Specifics of Change:

GOES-16's station will move from a longitude of 75.2°W to 75.5°W between March 10 and March 31 to make space for GOES-19. As the drift occurs, some artifacts may become visible and remain present in the ABI CONUS scene at 75.5°W until GOES-19 assumes GOES-East operations on April 4. ABI Full Disk and MESO scenes are expected to have nominal product quality and INR performance. GLM and SUVI data are expected to have nominal product quality and INR performance. However, the nominal_satellite_subpoint_lon metadata will be incorrect in ABI and GLM product headers and left at -75.2 (east) for the duration. EXIS and SEISS data are expected to be unimpacted.
