Topic: Install of PR.13.10.00 software build for GOES-16 and GOES-18
Date/Time Issued: September 25, 2024 1830 UTC
Product(s) or Data Impacted: GOES-16 & GOES-18 ABI L2+ Derived Motion Winds (all bands), Cloud Optical Depth, and Cloud Particle Size products
Date/Time of Initial Impact: October 3, 2024
Date/Time of Expected End: N/A
Length of Outage: N/A
Details/Specifics of Change: On October 3, 2024, the PR.13.10.00 software update will be placed into operations on the GOES-R Ground System. This release will include an update to the Cloud Optical and Microphysical Properties (COMP) and Derived Motion Winds (DMW) algorithms. An outage of one product (to include Full Disk, CONUS, and Mesos) is possible for those products impacted by this software install. The details of each update is provided below:
Derived Motion Winds
At times, the DMW output contains duplicate wind retrievals for the same latitude, longitude and pressure level. This results in a failure of the AWIPS system used by the National Weather Service to display data with duplicate vectors. A post-processing step is being added to remove the duplicate wind vectors. As part of this update, the version/revision listed in the algorithm_product_version_container will update from “v02r00” to “v02r01”.
Cloud Optical and Microphysical Properties
An update to the gas coefficients used by the Daytime portion of the COMP algorithm. This will result in little-to-no change to the output, however the algorithm version/revision listed in the algorithm_product_version_container will update from “v02r01” to “v02r02”.
