Update #1: Metop-C MIRS and Metop-C AMSU-A channel 4 data restored. Due to the instrument aging process, the warm counts of Metop-C AMSU-A channel 4 dropped below NOAA’s lower threshold recently. This impacted the channel calibration and data applications. An adjustment was made to address the aging issue and recalibrate the L1b data. The MIRS orbit for 2023/10/24 1720-1901Z was processed with the new adjustments, and returned data for channel 4 and Snowfall Rate. Date/Time of Expected End is now October 24, 2023 1948Z. Length of Event  about 12 days.

Topic: Metop-C MIRS Snowfall Rate out

Date/Time Issued: October 24, 2023 2030Z

Date/Time of Expected End: TBD

Length of the Outage/Event: TBD

Details/Specifics of Change: Degradation in Metop-C channel 4 (52.8 GHz) has been observed since about October 12 and has been steadily worsening; as of Oct 23 there

is almost no channel 4 data available. The Snowfall Rate algorithm has a dependency on this channel, and has also been degrading as a result.
