Update #4: The implementation of software build PR.12.06.00 will occur on Monday August 21, 2023, barring a CWD declaration. There are two minor updates that have been made to the initial content which are outlined below:
A minor change has been made in regard to the splitting of the Cloud Fraction Packed (CFP) dataset in the Cloud Cover Layers product. The new 2-dimensional datasets containing the Cloud Fraction (CF) in each of the 5 flight layers will simply be named CF1, CF2,...CF5.
A metadata update included in this build could potentially cause a full or partial outage for a single image (all scenes) at the time of installation for the following Level 2 products:
Aerosol Optical Depth
Aerosol Detection
Rain Rate
Imagery (PDA impact only)
Fire Hot Spot
Sea Surface Temperature
Shortwave Radiation
Soundings
Derived Motion Winds
Cloud Cover Layers
Update #3: The implementation of software build PR.12.06.00 has been delayed and a new target date for installation is not yet set. Once the date of implementation is known, a follow-up notification will be sent.
Update #2: The implementation of software build PR.12.06.00 has been delayed and will now occur no sooner than Monday July 24, 2023
Update #1: The content for this software build has been updated to include two changes to the Cloud Cover Layers algorithm that were originally part of the PR.12.04.00 software build. Due to this change in content, the release number is also being changed to PR.12.06.00 in order to reflect the additional and more substantial software changes. Below is a summary of the new changes that will be included in PR.12.06.00:
Change the Cloud Fraction Packed (CFP) variable that outputs the cloud fraction in 5 predefined flight layers from a 3-dimensional dataset to 5 separate 2-dimensional variables. The new variables will contain information in the long_name attribute denoting the vertical extent of the layer. (e.g CFP1:long_name = “cloud fraction between the surface and 5000 feet above sea level”).
Update to resolve missing blocks in CCL through improved filtering of input data
Topic: GOES-16 and GOES-18 software build (PR.12.06.00) Implementation
Date/Time Issued: August 18, 2023 1601 UTC
Product(s) or Data Impacted: GOES-16 & GOES-18 ABI L2+ products
Date/Time of Initial Impact: August 21, 2023
Date/Time of Expected End: N/A
Length of Outage: N/A
Details/Specifics of Change: On or about July 17, 2023, the PR.12.05.01 software build will be placed into Data Operations for both GOES-16 and GOES-18. This build contains metadata updates for ABI L2+ products.
For the ABI L2 products, a change is needed to the naming convention of the “L2_processing_param_version” in order to conform to the Product Distribution (PD) requirements. This variable contains the name of the processing parameter files that will be provided to PDA. The following is an example of the change that will be made to the name of the processing parameter container file:
Old name: OR-PARM-LST_v02r00.zip
New name: OR_ABI-L2-PARM-LST_v02r00.zip
