Update #2: The current eFire version doesn’t include persistent water fire spots, and a patch can be expected.
Update #1: The satellite derived Ocean Heat Content (OHC) product will be included in this NCCF System Upgrade 1.12.2.
Topic: NCCF System Upgrade 1.12.2
Date/Time Issued: August 9, 2023 1406Z
Product(s) or Data Impacted: OHC, SNPP/N20/ N21 eFire VIIRS I-Band, SNPP/N20/N21 OMPS V8TOz, and GBBEPx
Date/Time of Initial Impact: August 29, 2023, TBD UTC
Date/Time of Expected End: August 29, 2023, TBD UTC
Length of Outage: N/A
Details/Specifics of Change:
The satellite derived Ocean Heat Content (OHC), SNPP/NOAA-20/ NOAA-21 Enterprise Fire (eFire) VIIRS I-Band, SNPP/NOAA-20/NOAA-21 OMPS V8TOz , BUFR, and DSS Products are being migrated from on-prem systems to the NESDIS Common Cloud Framework (NCCF). The OHC and SNPP/NOAA-20/NOAA-21 products are planned to be declared operational in NCCF on August 29, 2023. The PDA short names and image file names for the NCCF OHC products have been modified and users will need to make necessary changes to their subscriptions. The PDA short names for V8TOz will remain the same during this migration. The test products have been available on PDA I&T now. Users can start subscribing to these data products from PDA I&T. The test data product short names are appended with “_TEST”.
This NCCF upgrade 1.12.2 also includes the GBBEPx v4 upgrade.
Note: (1) The OHC legacy on-prem will keep running in parallel for 60 days after the NCCF OHC in product generation. It will be turned off afterwards; (2) Both NDE VIIRS Active Fire (AF) I-Band & and and NCCF eFire VIIRS I-Band will be distributed via PDA from August 29, 2023 through November 30, 2023. NDE VIIRS Active Fire (AF) I-Band and and will be turned off on November 30, 2023. After November 30, 2023, only NCCF eFire VIIRS I-Band will be continuously operationally distributed through PDA; (3) The current eFire version does not correctly detect persistent hot spots over water. We are working on an update; the new delivery will correct this issue.
Please make the required updates to your processing/operations as soon as possible. Let us know if you have any questions.
Updated products included in this release are:
Operational product generation Ocean Heat Content Product Suite in NCCF:
Impact on users: Yes
PDA short name and image file name changes
List of Scientific Changes: New quality monitoring metadata has been added to the code, as suggested by the science team. Each basin now uses a predetermined latitude/longitude box of 1°x1° and calculates the average, standard deviation, and variance of the points in that box. The resolution of the product is 0.25°x0.25°, resulting in 25 points per calculation.
Operational product generation of SNPP/NOAA-20 VIIRS Active Fire (AF) in NDE and SNPP/NOAA-20/NOAA-21 eFire VIIRS in NCCF:
Impact on users: YES
PDA short name changes
List of Scientific Changes: None
Operational product generation V8TOZ Product Suite in NCCF:
Impact on users: Yes
No PDA short name changed
List of Scientific Changes: None
OPERATIONAL PRODUCT UPDATES: GBBEPx v4 in NCCF:
Changes in this update:
1. Solve the scaling related issues at different grid size
2. Change fill-values in the metadata attribute to make them consistent to GBBEPx v3
Impact on users: Yes. The primary users were informed and the EMC groups confirmed that their applications are okay and ready for the changes.
No PDA short name changed
No PDA file name changed
