Update #1: IDPS Block 2.3 Maintenance Release Mx 8 Transition to Operations has been postponed to July 11, 2023.
Topic: JPSS Algorithm Updates in IDPS Block 2.3 Maintenance Release Mx 8 Transition to Operations
Date/Time Issued: June 27, 2023 2236
Product(s) or Data Impacted: All JPSS products
Date/Time of Initial Impact: July 5, 2023 TBD
Date/Time of Expected End: N/A
Length of Outage: N/A
Details/Specifics of Change:
The next Interface Data Processing Segment (IDPS) Block 2.3 maintenance release Mx8 (IDPS Mx I2.3.08.00) is scheduled to transition to operations on July 5, 2023.
Algorithm Updates in IDPS Mx 8 release include:
VIIRS Verified RDR Algorithm Code Change
Fixes an issue found by the Community Satellite Processing Package (CSPP) direct-broadcast processing software: a VIIRS RDR processing failure resulted in unflagged bad radiance values that caused false fire detection with the CSPP Active Fire Software
Improves robustness of the VIIRS RDR to SDR processing in IDPS
Applies to all missions
VIIRS SDR Excessive Reflectance Values
Removes “speckles” (single pixels much brighter than the surrounding pixels) in VIIRS Imagery EDR M6 images derived from the VIIRS SDR reflectance products by changing how the radiance substitution for saturated pixels is calculated
Applies to all missions, but likely most impactful for N21
ATMS Warm and Cold NEDT
Upgrades the ATMS NEDT (Noise Equivalent Differential Temperature) calculation algorithm to provide more stable scan level NEDT results in ATMS SDR products
Applies to all missions
OMPS TC code change and OMPS-TC MACROPIX and EV-SAMPLE tables update
Corrects errors seen in the eastern-most pixel of the N21 OMPS-TC SDR
Applies to N21 only
CrIS sensor TVAC neon lamp erroneous reading causes data loss
A preventative update to correct false alarms seen during J3 CrIS TVAC testing
Algorithm update applies to all missions
N21 ATMS permanent S/W update to correct the H/S alerts
Fixes erroneous calculation coefficients in the ATMS SDR code that are causing false health status alerts
The alerts are currently suppressed by a PCT update until the code change is in operations
False alerts seen in N21 data, algorithm update applies to all missions
Out-of-cycle LUTs/PCTs added to the Mx8 baseline:
N21 OMPS NP and TC CalConst LUT Update
ATMS OOC Mounting Matrix PCT Update
CrIS OOC Mounting Matrix PCT Update
OMPS OOC Mounting Matrix Coef. Update
OMPS OOC N21 Pre-launch LUTs
VIIRS OOC QA-V2 LUT Post-TVAC Update
N21 ATMS PCT update to suppress instrument H/S QFs
