Topic: Planned Joint Polar Satellite System (JPSS) to NESDIS Common Cloud Framework (NCCF) Network Test
Date/Time Issued: May 10, 2023 1947Z
Product(s) or Data Impacted: All products made in NCCF from JPSS input data may be delayed during this test.
Date/Time of Initial Impact: May 17, 2023 1300Z
Date/Time of Expected End: May 17, 2023 1830Z
Length of Event: 5.5 hours
Details/Specifics of Change: The current network to get data from JPSS to NCCF relies on equipment at the NOAA Satellite Operations Facility (NSOF) in Suitland, MD. As part of contingency planning testing, we will be executing a network test on May 17 to move the network between JPSS and NCCF to go through the Consolidate Backup Unit (CBU) in Fairmont, WV. No data or products will be lost. Users can expect some data delay to the products listed below.
Here is the expected schedule on May 17:
At 1300Z, JPSS will begin network modifications. This is expected to take about 2 hours or less.
Data will resume, including any backlogged data, as soon as the new network configuration is in place. This configuration will run until 1630Z.
At 1630Z, JPSS will return to the original configuration. This is expected to take 2 hours or less.
By 1830Z, data will resume, including any backlogged data.
The backup date for this test in the event of critical weather is May 18, or later if critical weather is declared for the backup date. Exact times may be subject to change depending on the orbital schedule.
These products made with JPSS data are currently made in NCCF and would be impacted by the expected delays on May 17:
Other JPSS data and products still flow through our on-prem system and will not be impacted.
