On March 8, 2022 at 06:00z, S-NPP VIIRS will perform its annual Emissive Band Calibration. Due to the VIIRS blackbody temperature changes during the calibration, the VIIRS science data quality may be affected for certain applications, but the data is expected to remain within specification.
Below is a timeline of the blackbody heating/cooling cycle:
March 8 06:00z - BB to 297.5K
March 8 09:00z - BB to 302.5K
March 8 12:00z - BB to 307.5K
March 8 15:00z - BB to 312.5K
March 8 18:00z - BB to 315K
March 8 21:00z - BB temperature control off
March 9 21:00z - BB temperature control on and set to 272.5K
March 10 00:00z - BB to 282.5K
March 10 03:00z - BB to 292.5K
