Date/Time Issued: June 30, 2022 1455 UTC
Product or Data Impacted: Meteosat-8 Data and Products
Date/Time of Initial Impact: April 25, 2022
Date/Time of Expected End: July 1, 2022 0900 UTC
Length of Event: 67 days
Details/Specifics of Change: EUMETSAT has replaced Meteosat-8 with Meteosat-9 as the primary geostationary satellite to support the IODC service. Meteosat-9 became the official IODC satellite starting June 1, 2022 at the new location of 45.5E. Following is the remaining parallel data flow schedule provided from EUMETSAT to complete users' transition from Meteosat-8 to Meteosat-9 IODC operations:
From June 1, 2022, to July 1, 2022 -- Starting 0900 UTC, June 1, 2022, Meteosat-8 will provide parallel IODC service while Meteosat-9 provides the primary IODC service.
During this period, as an IODC data back-up, Meteosat-8 image filenames from NOAA/NESDIS PDA will be modified to contain “PAR” (for “parallel”). Ex:
H-000-MSG1__-MSG1_IODCPAR-HRV______-000001___-202202031045-C
H-000-MSG1__-MSG1_IODCPAR-IR_016___-000001___-202202031045-C_
Corresponding PDA product short names. Ex:
MSG1_IODC_HRV_PAR
MSG1_IODC_IR_016_PAR
During this period and onward, Meteosat-9 image filenames from NOAA/NESDIS PDA will not contain “PAR”. Ex:
H-000-MSG2__-MSG2_IODC___-HRV______-000001___-202202031045-C_
H-000-MSG2__-MSG2_IODC___-IR_016___-000001___-202202031045-C_
Corresponding PDA product short names. Ex:
MSG2_IODC_HRV
MSG2_IODC_IR_016
From July 1, 2022 -- Starting 0900 UTC, July 1, 2022, Meteosat-8 data flow will stop ending the parallel IODC service.
EUMETSAT will stop parallel Meteosat-8 data flow at 0900 UTC, July 1, 2022. At this time, NESDIS will halt distribution of Meteosat-8 data and products from its distribution systems. NOAA/NESDIS has completed the transition to Meteosat-9 IODC data and is now providing operational Meteosat-9 HRIT L1b data from the PDA. See above for Meteosat-9 PDA filename information. Meteosat-9 imagery and NESDIS generated L2 products are also available from the GEODIST system for McIDAS users. Moving forward, the switch to operational Meteosat-9 data distribution at NOAA/NESDIS should not impact McIDAS users unless your data processing precisely keys on "Meteosat-8" or SSID 51.
