Update #5: Please note the variable name changes in the VIIRS M-band imagery EDRs as follow:
Old - “BrightnessTemperatureOrReflectance" dataset and associated "BrightnessTemperatureOrReflectanceFactors" dataset
New - either a "Reflectance" dataset and associated "ReflectanceFactors" dataset, if a visible channel, or a "BrightnessTemperature" and associated "BrightnessFactors" dataset if an IR channel.
Update #4: IDPS Block 2.3 Maintenance Release Mx 4 transition to operations has been tentatively rescheduled to October 7, 2021.
Update #3: IDPS Block 2.3 Maintenance Release Mx 4 transition to operations has been tentatively rescheduled to September 30, 2021.
Update #2: The JPSS-2 OMPS Code Change and Initial LUT update will have an impact on SNPP and NOAA-20 OMPS Nadir Mapper SDR (OMPS-TC-SDR). OMPS Nadir Mapper SDR granule size will increase from 15x105 to 30x240. Users needing help with the bigger sized OMPS SDR may contact Trevor Beck by email: trevor.beck@noaa.gov. Additionally, please note that the IDPS Block 2.3 Maintenance Release Mx 4 transition to operations date could be impacted. ESPC will notify users of any changes to the current date.
Update #1: This is the 30 day notice for the IDPS Block 2.3 maintenance release Mx4 scheduled for September 9, 2021.
Topic: JPSS Algorithm Updates in IDPS Block 2.3 Maintenance Release Mx 4 Transition to Operations
Date/Time Issued: September 10, 2021 1640UTC
Product(s) or Data Impacted: VIIRS Near Constant Contrast (NCC) and M-band Imagery Environmental Data Records (EDRs) and OMPS Nadir Mapper SDR
Date/Time of Initial Impact: October 7, 2021 TBD UTC
Date/Time of Expected End: N/A
Length of Outage: N/A
Details/Specifics of Change:
The next Interface Data Processing Segment (IDPS) Block 2.3 maintenance release Mx4 (IDPS Mx I2.3.04.00) is scheduled to transition to operations on October 7, 2021.
Algorithm Updates in IDPS Mx 4 release include:
VIIRS NCC (Near Constant Contrast) Imagery Tri-Linear Interpolation to Remove Banding
The VIIRS NCC was found to contain low-level (but above noise level) banding. It was determined that in certain scenes banding was found that was related to solar, lunar, and satellite zenith angles. The result of the change is the removal of artificial discontinuities in brightness across those interfaces.
Expanding the Current Set of Six VIIRS M-band Imagery EDRs to the Full Set of 16 VIIRS M-band Imagery EDRs
IDPS is to produce and disseminate all 16 VIIRS M-band imagery EDRs.
NDE/PDA will ingest/distribute the additional 10 VIIRS M-band EDRs upon user request.

JPSS-2 OMPS Code Change and Initial LUT update
Code change to allow for production of high resolution OMPS TC SDRs for JPSS-2 with initial set of JPSS-2 OMPS TC & NP launch ready LUTs.
Data impact for SNPP & NOAA-20: OMPS Nadir Mapper SDR granule size increased from 15x105 to 30x240. Impacted product shortname is OMPS-TC-SDR.
OMPS-TC Field Angle Map (FAM) LUT update
Update to S-NPP and N20 OMPS-TC FAM LUTs to correct for off-nadir geolocation error. Operational users will see no change since these tables were put into operations out of cycle on 6/28/2021.
