Update #2: This is the final notice for the operational implementation of the Himawari-8 Products in NCCF on May 3, 2021 from 14Z to 16Z UTC. Adding the H8 Rainfall Rate products and an update to H8 SST file names are listed below in red
Update #1: Currently provided by NESDIS STAR to the user community, the production and distribution of Himawari-8 Level-2 products (Clouds and Winds) will be officially transitioned to the NCCF and PDA system effective May 3, 2021. All operational users should access Himawari-8 L2 products from the PDA system by the effective date. NESDIS STAR will continue to generate and distribute Himawari-8 L2 products from its server until June 1, 2021 as a temporary backup to the PDA system.

Details/Specifics of Change:
The Himawari-8 Level-2 products are required by NWS as mitigation for the degraded GOES-17 ABI channels. In addition, the H8 Cloud Moisture Imagery products meet the NWS need for geostationary imagery within and near its Pacific and Alaska Regions. The following Himawari-8 products are planned to be deployed to the NCCF Prod on May 3, 2021.
Please note, not all PDA users may receive these products, subject to their current approvals for product type and data volume. These products will also be distributed by the Big Data Program: https://noaa-himawari8.s3.amazonaws.com/index.html
Please note: This promotion might not be performed during Critical Weather Day (CWD).
Also, the products of this promotion are subject to change based on user readiness, customer feedback, and management approval.
