Details/Specifics of Change: Following a parallel distribution period with the Global Mosaic of Geostationary Satellite Imagery (GMGSI) product since September 2020, the GINI Global Multi-Satellite Geostationary Satellite Imagery Composite will be deactivated for NWS AWIPS on December 10 at 1600 UTC. On December 10, 2020, the GMGSI product (netCDF4 format) will officially replace the GINI Global Multi-Satellite Geostationary Satellite Imagery Composite (GINI binary format) for NWS AWIPS users.
For
NWS AWIPS users, the replacement GMGSI product in netCDF4
format will be distributed from the NWS NOAAPort/SBN every
three hours. For other users, the products will continue to be available from the NESDIS PDA (netCDF4) and GEODIST
(McIDAS format) at one hourly intervals. To facilitate
successful user transition from the former to the
replacement product, file information for both products has
been provided below.
