Update #1: This maintenance work has been pushed to September 16, 2024.

Topic: Metop-B MIRS Anomaly

Date/Time Issued:  September 10, 2024, 1710Z

Product(s) or Data Impacted: Metop-B MIRS

Date/Time of Initial Impact: September 11, 2024, 1700Z

Date/Time of Expected End: September 11, 2024, 1800Z

Length of Outage:  N/A

Details/Specifics of Change:

Metop-B MIRS product quality has been degraded due to the noise trend in channel 6 for a while. STAR scientists did an investigation of this issue and recommended

turning off Metop-B channel 6 in the MIRS algorithm.  Turning channel 6 off will significantly reduces noise-related striping seen in mid-tropospheric temperature maps and increase the

product quality, especially in mid and upper-tropospheric temperature and TPW.
